Teacher & Director Designee

Supervisor:          Child Care Director

Prerequisites:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements set by DCFS for "Director"

  2. Have a minimum of 3 years experience as a lead teacher in a licensed child care center.

  3. Meet all requirements set in the Teacher job description.

  4. Be physically able to work with young children and perform all duties as required in he day-to-day activities.

  5. Completion of necessary paperwork includes a background check, finger printing, physical examination, and TB skin test procedures must be on file.

  6. Complete 15 hours of in-service per year and submit documentation to director.

  7. Current First Aid and CPR certified in order to hire.

General Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Child Care Director and in harmony with the Christian nature and purpose of the established policies and goals of the Heritage YMCA Group, the Teacher is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of all classroom activities.  The Teacher is responsible for ensuring children's social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development and holds primary responsibility for the education, health, welfare, and safety of the children in the program.

Skill Development and Progression

Staff Training

            1. Attend all staff meetings and training events as scheduled

Program Development

  1. Assist in creating and implementing innovative activities for the child care center

  2. Support the mission and philosophy of the YMCA and reflect these principles in your actions and promotion of all YMCA programs.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Assume responsibilities of Director Designee in Director's absence as set by the Director.

  2. Supervise child care staff in Director's absence.

  3. Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the goals, philosophies, and policies of the YMCA Child Care Center.

  4. Responsible for the safety of the children in the program at all times.

  5. Supervise assistants, volunteers, work-study individuals, and high school students in the classroom.

  6. Effectively develop and carry out weekly lesson plans that fit children's needs and interests.

  7. Document attendance, absenteeism, meal forms, and any other forms or paperwork necessary.

  8. Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with parents throughout the year and meet with parents to discuss the development of the child when necessary.

  9. Attend staff meetings when requested.

  10. Attend parent-child events related to the program when requested.

  11. Responsible for taking messages for other staff members from parents, other teachers, and administration.

  12. Responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the classroom and maintain the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom and storage areas.

  13. Responsible for reporting any relevant information about children or staff to the Director.

  14. Evaluate child progress and document development.

  15. Play with and interact with children during playing activities.

  16. Assume any other duties as requested by the Child Care Director.

  17. Become familiar with and follow guidelines set by DCFS, Fire Marshal, Health Department, YMCA, and Child Care Director.
