Program Coordinator

Prerequisites:
-
Requires 2 years of college from an accredited university or
equivalent life experience, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Must have 2 years of supervised experience working directly with
school age children.

Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
-
Supervision and administrative experience that relates to program
planning, implementation, and evaluation strongly preferred.
-
Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR certifications (within 60
days of employment).

Must be comfortable speaking in front of groups and to parents
General
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the program director, the
Program Coordinator will provide leadership in the program
development, delivery, supervision and evaluation of the Y Safe ‘n
Sound before- and after-school program and summer camp programs in
accordance with Heritage YMCA Guidelines.
The Program Coordinator will also run and implement new and
innovative programs with the Y Safe ‘n Sound program and work hand in
hand with the YMCA on-site staff.

Skill
Development and Progression:
In the timeline assigned by supervisor, the
Program Coordinator will obtain the following certifications:
1.
YMCA Working With Children ages 5-9
certification
2.
YMCA Principles of Child Care certification
3.
YMCA Working With Diverse Cultures
4.
Must keep CPR & First Aid certification
current
5.
Others as deemed necessary for the position
Staff
Training/Meetings:
1.
The Program Coordinator will attend all
trainings.
2.
Attend and participate in staff meetings and
trainings events. Assist
in the presentation and development of some trainings.
Supervision / Evaluation:
1.
Provide direct supervision of assigned Y Safe
‘n Sound sites and summer day camp programs ensuring the safety of all
program participants.
2.
Provide direction and guidance to site staff,
aid in on-site staff training, and provide feedback to program
directors on staff performance.
3.
Work with program director on semi-annual
appraisals of before- and after-school program staff.
4.
Visit before- and after-school program sites
to assure that sites are adhering to all policies and procedures.
Evaluate program content, daily program management, and
short-term objectives.
5.
Supervisor specific camp staff providing
leadership, evaluations, and training.
Program
Development:
1.
Assist program directors in developing program
activities using established curriculum guidelines.
2.
Develop and implement summer programs for
specific camps.
3.
Assist program directors in planning and
developing activities for special events.
4.
Assist in the recruitment of the centers
part-time program staff.
Insure that there are an adequate number of potential employees for
part-time program positions.
Program
Delivery:
1.
Be available to substitute as needed or be on
call for before- and after-school programs.
2.
Provide on site leadership to site directors
as needed.
3.
Mentor site staff as directed by program
director.
4.
Supervise and lead staff through the summer
camp program.
Other
Responsibilities:
1.
Maintain good communication with parents and
site staff. Assist
program director in development of parent newsletter and staff
newsletter.
2.
Develop working relationship with District 203
school staff including principals, secretaries and custodian.
3.
Demonstrate and teach the character
development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
4.
Support the mission and philosophies of the
Heritage YMCA Group and reflect these principles in your actions.
5.
Perform other job related tasks as assigned by
supervisors.
