Lifeguard
Supervisor: Program Director
Prerequisites:
-
Current Ellis and
Associates Lifeguard License.

All lifeguards must
be at least 16 years of age.

Ability to stay alert
for long periods of time.
General
Responsibilities:
-
Maintain a
safe environment in the pool by actively scanning all areas
including:
-
Enforce pool
rules consistently and fairly using the Q-1-2 method.
-
Know, follow,
and enforce emergency procedures.
-
Maintain the
standards of Jeff Ellis & Associates including the 10:20 rule,
oxygen use, operation of an AED, etc.
-
Maintain a
clean aquatics environment by general cleaning while not posted.
-
Rotate in
with other lifeguards to help maintain a 1:25 lifeguard to
swimmer ratio.

Arrive 15
minutes before your shift and post no later than the time you
are scheduled to start.

Perform
appropriate rescues/first aid for victims.
-
Model the
YMCA core values on and off the clock.
-
Complete all
necessary paperwork (e.g. accident/rescuer reports, daily log
book).
-
Arrive 15
minutes before your shift, punch in, and post on time.
-
Be
responsible for the hours you are scheduled, if necessary,
follow appropriate substitution procedures.

Wear
appropriate clothing, including swim suit, rescue tube, whistle,
and fanny pack.
Training:

Effect on End Results:
The end result is that the
lifeguard is knowledgeable and capable of ensuring the safety of
all in the pool area and takes action to prevent injuries. The
lifeguard is a representative of the YMCA and should take care
that his/her area is presentable.
